‘Stupid is, as stupid does’ en vermeende saaiheid
‘Stupid is, as stupid does,’ zei de moeder van Forrest Gump in de gelijknamige film. Ik vraag me af of je dit principe ook kunt toepassen op vermeende saaiheid. Zoals het idee dat Benedictijnse kloosterlingen een saai leven leiden omdat ze altijd op dezelfde plek blijven en leven volgens vaste regels en routines.
Maar wat is saai?
In mijn ervaring kan, wat anderen als saai zien, juist ruimte voor verdieping betekenen. Voor een interessante binnenwereld. Dus om de moeder van Forrest Gump te parafraseren:
Boring is, as boring does.

Saaiheid, de overheid houdt ons wel bezig met het noodpakket.

I used to purposely make sure my boys experienced boredom now and then because I think often our best ideas spring from being bored and having the time to really stop and think and feel.
That is so true Joanne! It is when we get ‘bored’ our brain starts to get creative.

Hello Nicole, there’s nothing wrong with boring sometimes. We don’t have to be busy constantly.
